HANGZHOU, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari said Saturday his country welcomes Chinese investors.     Zardari made the call during his visit to Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, the first leg of his ongoing China tour. The infrastructure alone will require an initial investment of 110 billion U.S. dollars.     Chinese fruit preservers can also play a crucial role in Pakistan as about 40 percent of Pakistan's fruit can not be moved to other places due to the lack of freezing vehicles, according to Pakistani officials, who commented on the basis of anonymity.     Zardari was paying his fourth visit to China since taking office last September.     He attributed his frequent visits to the intent of bringing back home China's experience in development. PYONGYANG, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Kim Jong Il, top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), held talks here on Monday and reached important consensus on China-DPRK relations and the promotion of a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula.     Premier Wen extended sincere greetings and best wishes to Kim on behalf of Chinese President Hu Jintao.     The hard-earned friendship and friendly cooperative relations achieved by the joint efforts of several generations of the two countries conform to the aspiration of the two peoples, Wen said, adding that the two nations should pass on the friendship from generation to generation.     China is willing to work with the DPRK to maintain high-level exchanges, deepen pragmatic cooperation, strengthen coordination on major issues, and push forward the good-neighborly and friendly cooperative relations, he added.     Kim asked Wen to relay his greetings to Chinese President Hu. BEIJING, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- China's home prices continued to rise in July as bank loans surged and the country's economy improved.     Home prices in 70 large and medium-sized Chinese cities rose 1 percent in July from a year earlier, according to a joint statement issued Monday by the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Bureau of Statistics. The prices climbed 0.9 percent from June, which saw a 0.8 percent gain over May.     Prices of new homes in the listed cities rose 0.3 percent year on year in July, and 1.1 percent from June. New home prices increased in 43 cities, including eastern Ningbo City and northwestern Yinchuan City, which saw growth rates of 6.4 percent and 5.4 percent respectively. Graphics shows China's housing sales price in July increased 1.0 percent year-on-year in 70 large and medium-sized cities, according to the State Bureau of Statistics on Aug. 10, 2009.     Prices fell in 26 cities. The northern city of Shijiazhuang and southern city of Shenzhen witnessed price drops of 5.5 percent and 4.6 percent in July year on year.     Second-hand homes in the 70 cities rose 3 percent in July from the same period last year and 0.9 percent from June.     In the first seven months, property investment hit 1.77 trillion yuan (259.44 billion U.S. dollars), up 11.6 percent year on year. The rise was1.7 percentage points higher than the first six months.     Over the same period, the floor area of property sold stood at 417.55 million square meters, up 37.1 percent year on year. The value of property sales jumped 60.4 percent to 1.96 trillion yuan.     Chinese banks lent a record 7.37 trillion yuan of yuan-dominated loans in the first half, exceeding the annual target of 5 trillion yuan.     The country's central bank announced earlier this month that new loans to home buyers in the first half rose by 263.3 billion yuan year on year to 479.3 billion yuan, boosted by an improving property market performance.     New credit for property developers increased by 221 billion yuan year on year to 403.9 billion yuan, said the central bank.     Premier Wen Jiabao reaffirmed over the weekend that the government's relaxed monetary policy would continue.

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Tropical storm Goni has brought huge rainfall to south China after it landed early Wednesday morning in Taishan of south China's Guangdong Province.     Downpours drenched most parts of Guangdong and neighboring Fujian province, with a hydrological station in Guangdong reporting precipitation of about 400 mm.     The weakening Goni is moving westward slowing and is expected to bring downpours to west Guangdong from Thursday to Friday.     Maritime affairs department in the southern island province of Hainan said Tuesday that it had issued an emergency warning to 20,000 fishing vessels in the South China Sea, calling them to harbor.     Another tropical storm, Morakot, has strengthened into typhoon and is expected to make a landfall from late Friday to Saturday in central and northern Fujian, weather forecasters said.     Local authorities have put in place emergency plans to evacuate residents amid other efforts to reduce losses from Morakot, the 8th typhoon this year.     Severe rainstorms also wreak havoc in other parts of the country Wednesday.     In Suichuan, eastern Jiangxi province, flash flood washed down five houses and killed at least three people.     Rain-related disasters also killed two in the southwestern Guizhou province and another two in neighboring Chongqing municipality.

HONG KONG, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The launch of Renminbi sovereign bonds in Hong Kong on Monday shows China's efforts to boost the international use of the yuan step by step, officials and analysts said.     The bond issue, worth only 6 billion yuan (878.5 million U.S. dollars), marked a key milestone in the internationalization of the RMB.     Hong Kong was chosen for, and will benefit from, the milestone bond sale thanks to its unique position as the international financial center providing desired cushion against the potential risks when the program was launched, analysts said.          BOOSTING INTERNATIONAL USE OF RMB     The bond issue in Hong Kong came earlier than expected, said Hu Yifan, an economist with CITIC Securities.     "The need for the RMB to go international and convertible has been growing along with the increasing importance and openness of the Chinese mainland economy and the risks arising from over- reliance on the United States dollar as the reserve currency," said Tse Kwok-leung, head of economic research of Bank of China ( Hong Kong) Limited.     China has been launching pilot RMB programs over the years, but the pace has obviously quickened since the onset of the global financial crisis. Pilot RMB programs launched in Hong Kong over the past 12 months also included yuan-denominated cross-border trade settlement and trade financing, yuan bonds issued by policy banks, commercial lenders and the branches of foreign banks, and currency swaps.     The sovereign bond issue would help "boost the international use of the RMB in a steady and orderly manner," the Chinese Ministry of Finance quoted Acting Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Henry Tang as saying.     The sovereign bond sale in Hong Kong serves the purpose of water testing to "see how it is received by international investors." Hong Kong has a unique strength in that it provides the desired cushion against potential risks when the pilot programs were launched, given that the mainland capital market was yet to open up, Tse said.          BOOSTING NASCENT BOND MARKET IN HONG KONG     The bond issue ahead of the Chinese National Day showed the central government's support for Hong Kong, Vice Minister of Finance Li Yong said.     It will help Hong Kong build on its strength as an international financial center by boosting the nascent bond market in Hong Kong, Tse Kwok-leung said.     "It calls for a banking system, a stock market and a bond market, all developed, to make a developed international financial center," Tse explained.     Hong Kong has been aspiring to be the leading international financial center in the Asian time zone.     Government statistics showed that the total assets of Hong Kong's banking system and the size of its stock market were both about six times its gross domestic product, compared with a bond market equivalent to 43 percent of its gross domestic product.     Bonds issued in Hong Kong in 2008 totaled 424.4 billion HK dollars (54.4 billion U.S. dollars), with 67 percent issued by the Hong Kong Foreign Exchange Fund, which was established to defend the Hong Kong dollar peg to the U.S. dollar.     The other 33 percent were accounted for by development banks from outside Hong Kong and corporate bonds issued by local players. There were no sovereign bonds.     Tse said the bond issue will also help improve the liquidity of, and diversify, the local bond market. It will also improve the operation of the RMB bond market in Hong Kong by helping find the benchmark interest rate in the local market.     Tse said the demand for sovereign bonds issued by an economy as strong as the Chinese mainland was huge, given the impact of the global financial crisis on the corporate bond market.     Vice Minister of Finance Li Yong also said he believed the bonds will be well received.     "I believe the RMB sovereign bonds will prove popular with investors looking for safe and prudent investments. I definitely think it will be successful," Li said.

BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- As more people made return trips to go back home and work, China saw a traffic boom on Thursday. Road transport departments nationwide carried 62.23 million passengers on Thursday, up 9.0 percent over the same day last year, according to the Ministry of Transport (MOT).     In the eight-day holiday, a total of 488 million passengers made journeys by road transport, representing an increase of 6.8 percent over the same period last year. BEIJING, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) - A Chinese official vows on Thursday to curb the country's production overcapacity and avoid repetitious construction of projects that are less environmental-friendly.     The move is part of the country's efforts to promote energy conservation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, Wan Bentai, chief engineer with the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP), said on half of MEP minister Zhou Shengxian.     "Today's projects should never become the target of tomorrow's environment control program."
