“I can’t read their minds so I don’t know that but we are going to make a concerted effort to persuade them that this region is a good region for them,” he said. “If they choose Bellevue or Tacoma or Everett or even Spokane, Seattle still wins and our region remains strong. That’s going to be our focus, how do we make sure that Amazon not only realizes that this is a great region for them but that they’re willing to stay and we’ll make our best shot.”
“Certainly the economics have improved through invention on behalf of the team there, as well as operating efficiencies,” said Szkutak, adding at the time that it is a “challenge” to make the service run profitably.
“I won’t lie, Amazon getting into your space always makes you take notice,” Rellas said. “You have to be really good at what you do. They are a company with infinite investment horizon. I’m not going to sit here and pretend we’re just going to go out and kill Amazon. We’re going to do our best to defend our position as a leader in what we’re doing around the country. But they’re the biggest e-commerce company in the world.”
“Because of the huge market potential, it (China) is expected to become the largest tourist-export destination, just behind Europe and the US,” Zhong said.
“I don’t see Google that often in most of the discussions we have with customers, whereas it’s pretty much Amazon and us in every single engagement competing,” Guthrie said.
