Macao chief executive Ho Iat-seng-led big trade delegation arrived in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, for further expansion of economic cooperation and cultural exchanges on Monday, shortly after he was sworn in as the fifth-term chief executive of Macao special administrative region last Friday.
Ma made the remarks in response to the announcement on Wednesday by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism that travel to Taiwan by individuals from the mainland will be suspended from Thursday (Aug 1), given the current climate of cross-Straits relations.
Ma said the fly-by is part of the PLA's planned routine exercise this year. "There is only one China in the world, and both the mainland and Taiwan belong to the same China," he said. "Protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity has been the sacred duty of the PLA, and it is in the interest of people from both sides of the straits."
Ma believes the new law would provide stronger legal guarantees for foreign investors and companies to safeguard their interests. "It's going to make China's business environment more open, equitable and transparent for foreign firms," he said.

Ma said many of his friends and colleagues support his proposal.
